In this session we will cover what you need to know to wild swim safely. We'll discuss what is happening to the body when immersing in cold water and how to work with it to get in safely before supporting each other to get into the water. This session is about getting in safely not about swimming any distance.

After our dook, we'll warm up in the sauna, with time to reflect on how to make good assessments before, during and after a swim and a chat about how to rewarm without a sauna. There is plenty of opportunity to re-dook, if you fancy, and we’ll finish with a wild foraged tea and homemade cake outdoors after if the weather allows.

This is a great way to start your wild swim journey, warning, it can become addictive!

  • A swim suit and 2 towels, one of swim, one for sauna
  • Shoes to wear into the water to protect your feet, water shoes or old trainers are great.
  • It's useful to have a waterproof mat to stand on whilst getting changed, could just be a plastic bag.
  • Plenty of warm layers and a woolly hat for afterwards, even if it is a warm day. Please bring at least one more layer than you think you will need and a windproof top layer.
  • Wetsuits are also welcome.
